Annual CPE

This is one of those things that’s just hard…it illustrates the chasm between population medicine and clinical medicine – the interface of what “ought to be done” for a collection of people vs. for the person sitting in front of you. We are expected by almost EVERYONE (including our patients) to do physical exams, and it feels like we wouldn’t pay as much attention to preventive measures as we do now (which is very little indeed) because we generally don’t have the proven reminder and recall systems going in our practices. That said, I DO try to tailor my “health maintenance visits” to counseling rather than palpating the thyroids of healthy people…It’s a real conundrum…
